New Delhi: Contrary to media reports, India created new jobs in the past four years according to a survey by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII).

The survey of over one lakh micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) revealed that 3,32,394 net jobs were created – a rise of 13.9% over the base four years ago.

In addition, the survey predicted that in the next year job creation will rise by 21% to create 5,70,804 new jobs.

In the largest ever survey of the MSME sector, 1,05,347 firms came under the survey covering various sectors, geography, and sizes.

Interestingly, the survey points out that the biggest job creator was the micro enterprises which contributed to 73% of the jobs created. Small enterprises came in at second place with 23% and the medium enterprises at 4%.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Telangana were the three top job creator states, which contributed to 50% of the total jobs created in the MSME sector.

Sector-wise, hospitality and tourism created the most jobs followed by textiles and apparels, metal products, machinery parts, transport, and logistics.

The survey suggests that various reforms and government initiatives have contributed to the rise of jobs. Reports convey that Mudra loan scheme by the government has helped the rise of microenterprises.
