Panaji: A day after Pramod Sawant was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Goa, he proved his majority on the floor of the Assembly with the support of 20 MLAs. Apart from 11 BJP MLAs, the government is supported by 3 MLAs of Goa Forward Party, 3 from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and 3 independents.
The Congress and its ally NCP could muster only 15 votes against the BJP.
Pramod Sawant, a close confidant and protégé of Manohar Parrikar, is the MLA from Sanquelim which is considered as a Congress stronghold.
The new Chief Minister, a doctor of Ayurveda Medicine, received his degree from Ganga Ayurvedic Medical College and also holds a Masters degree in Social Welfare from the Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth.
Sawant is known for his workaholic nature and has a penchant to get work done efficiently and within a limited time. Like his predecessor, Pramod Sawant is also known for his quite nature and simple living.
