Varkala: A report said that two of the main accused in the murder of Leenamani have surrendered before the Rural SP. Both the surrendered accused, Ahad and Shaji, are brothers of Leenamani’s deceased husband, Siyad. They murdered Leenamani to grab the house and land of her dead husband which the accused claim as theirs.
Unfortunately, Leenamani was murdered the day after she obtained a court order to receive protection from domestic violence, said the report. Leenamani was living at her husband’s house after his death more than a year ago.
According to the report, Siyad’s brothers, Ahad and Shaji claimed that they have rights to his land and house after his death. Two months back, Ahad and his family forcefully entered the house and began living there. Leenamani had approached the court against this.
The day before the murder Leenamani got the court’s order for protection. That evening the police arrived and handed over the order to Leenamani and Ahad. The police believe that this protection order triggered the attack against Leenamani resulting in her death, said the report.
Ahad’s wife Raheena’s arrest was registered the other day. She was in police custody following Leenamani’s murder on Sunday. The police have also intensified its search for another accused Muhsina.
