Kochi: It is indicated that the Malayali terrorists who are attracted to the Islamic State have received weapons training from Syria. The National Investigation Agency also received indications that the Kerala unit had communicated with the leaders of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan. Currently, the NIA has extended the investigation to the Telegram group members with whom they were communicating.
The new information came from the questioning of the Malayali terrorist and his accomplices caught by the NIA from Tamil Nadu. It is reported that some people related to the arrested Ashif have received weapons training from Syria. The investigation is currently in progress focusing on them. Earlier, weapons training and special camps were organized for them in the forests of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Apart from this, they also received training from Syria. The National Investigation Agency stated that the investigation is currently going on for Sirajuddin, the accomplice of those arrested, and it is indicated that he has crossed to Syria.
Ashif, a native of Thrissur, was arrested the other day for planning to carry out terrorist attacks at places including Kerala. Three other suspects are currently in NIA custody. Ashif had testified that he was attracted to such extremist religious ideas while working in the Gulf countries and started working with like-minded people in the group. Telegram group was started for this purpose. The investigation team is also examining Ashif’s travel background in detail. The NIA is checking to which other countries has Ashif travelled from the gulf countries he visited. This is based on information that they have communicated with IS leaders in many countries including Afghanistan.
