Palakkad: Investigations into a case of abandonment of an infant has led to a tale of love, betrayal and rape of a young woman by a local communist leader. The infant was found near the house of Hariprasad on the verge of death. A preliminary investigation by Child Line activists have revealed that the mother was raped at a CPI(M) office at Cherpulassery and later betrayed by her lover.

The mother, a student leader of the communist party during her college days, was raped when she went to see a youth leader of the communist party at the CPI(M) Cherpulassery Area Committee Office. According to her, she went there to discuss about the college magazine. Both were active members of the left party and were involved in publishing the college magazine.

The woman said that she was in a relation with him during the time of rape.

CPI(M) Area Secretary of Cherpulassery has denied the accusation that the woman was raped at the party office and said that it was a politically motivated case to defame the party before the elections. However, reports say that the party is trying hard to hush up the incident to save face.

The police are yet to take any action against the youth leader amid strong pressure from the communist party. A string of cases of molestation and rape have exposed the communist party which was vocal against the ban of women at Sabarimala.

Recently, P. K. Sasi, the communist MLA from Shornur was accused of rape by a woman belonging to the youth wing of CPI(M) at the party office in Mannarkad. Though the party initiated investigations, it went soft on the MLA. He is now attending party meetings and is active in his political work.
