Delhi court orders police to produce report of investigation into Owaisi hate speech

New Delhi: A Delhi court has ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to appear in court along with the detailed report of the investigation into the hate speech delivered by Asaduddin Owaisi in 2014.

The court ordered the ACP to come in person before the court with the report on June 29.

Last year the Delhi police had filed a closure report in the FIR registered in 2015 against the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief for hate speech citing that nothing could be found about source of authenticity of the derogatory video.

However, the complainant Ajay Gautham had filed a protest petition against Delhi police’s move to close the case. He alleged that the police never came to record the statement of the applicant in the 3 years and was averse to conduct any investigations against Owaisi because of his high political influence.

The AIMIM chief is facing a string of serious crimes with the FIR registered under sections 120B (Criminal conspiracy), 153(A)(promoting enmity between different groups) and 504(intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC along with sections 66A, 66F and 67 of Information Technology Act.
