THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The NSS has demanded the resignation of Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker A. N. Shamseer, alleging that he has insulted Hindu beliefs. The organization firmly believes that Shamseer is unfit to continue as Speaker, and if he refuses to resigns the post, the NSS urge the government to take appropriate action.
In a news release, NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair called upon Shamseer to apologize to the Hindu believers for his remarks. The organization claims that his statements were intentionally designed to incite communal tensions within Kerala.
Shamseer reportedly made these offensive remarks during his attendance at a program called ‘Vidya Jyothi,’ which took place at a government school in Ernakulam district on July 21.
Earlier, both the BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had filed numerous complaints and staged protests against Shamseer’s statement. Shamseer had allegedly referred to the Hindu idol Ganesha as a myth. Their complaints also assert that the Speaker is insulting Hindu beliefs under the guise of promoting rationalism.
G. Sukumaran Nair stated that Shamseer’s statement was outrageous, and he firmly asserted that no one had the authority to question the tenets of faith. He emphasized that any behavior promoting religious rivalry is unacceptable. Nair further expressed his belief that, in light of this situation, Shamseer is not entitled to continue serving as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
Additionally, Sukumaran Nair demanded that Shamseer retract his remarks and issue an apology to the Hindu believers.
