THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: On July 21, while participating in a program called ‘Vidya Jyothi’ at a government school in Ernakulam district, the Kerala Legislative Assembly Speaker A. N. Shamseer referred to the Hindu God Ganesha as a myth.

Following this, complaints were lodged against Shamseer by the BJP and other activists for his controversial and offensive statement.

Subsequently, the NSS (Nair Service Society) also came forward, demanding the resignation of Assembly Speaker A. N. Shamseer, condemning his remarks. NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair strongly criticized Shamseer and urged him to apologize to the Hindu believers for his remarks.

The NSS argued that Shamseer’s statements were intentionally aimed at stirring up communal tensions within Kerala.

In response to the situation, MV Govindan expressed his support for Shamseer’s statement, asserting that it had a scientific basis, and there should be no issue with it if interpreted correctly. Govindan added that myths should not be considered part of history and science.

Furthermore, Govindan stated that there is no need for Shamseer to apologize or resign, implying that the requests for apology and resignation are unwarranted. Govindan said this while talking to the media at Kannur.
