New Delhi: In a significant operation aimed at dismantling international drug cartels operating on the darknet, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has successfully thwarted two major networks and apprehended 22 individuals, confiscating a substantial haul of 29,103 blots of the potent drug LSD over the past three months. This commendable accomplishment was highlighted in a statement from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting on Tuesday (August 1). Union Home Minister Amit Shah conveyed his accolades to the NCB for this remarkable feat in combating the narcotics trade.

In a tweet, Amit Shah commended the NCB’s efforts in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of creating a drug-free India. He emphasised that this triumph will invigorate the spirits of all agencies dedicated to the fight against drugs. Shah further emphasised that despite the sophisticated technological tactics employed by drug traffickers, they cannot elude the grasp of our diligent law enforcement agencies.

In a major crackdown on the narcotics trade, the NCB busted 2 international drug cartels operating through the darknet and arrested 22 individuals with a huge cache of 29,103 blots of deadly LSD in the last 3 months.

The breakthrough achieved in pursuing PM @narendramodi Ji's…

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and various Government of India entities have relentlessly pursued the goal of establishing a drug-free India. By adopting a comprehensive approach advocated by the Union Home Minister, the NCB’s Delhi zonal unit effectively dismantled ‘The ZAMBADA CARTEL,’ a significant LSD cartel operating on the darknet.

NCB effectively broke two significant Indian LSD cartels operating on the darknet in less than three months. The NCB’s Delhi Zonal Unit reported six cases, resulting in the arrest of 22 people engaged in the import and countrywide distribution of narcotics. The haul comprised 29,013 LSD blots, 472 grams of MDMA powder, and narcotics earnings totalling 51.38 lakh rupees.

The modus operandi of this cartel involved communication through social media platforms, with courier deliveries utilising fictitious addresses and mobile numbers. Transactions were exclusively conducted using crypto currencies, ensuring minimal traceability and verbal communication. Following thorough cyber surveillance and meticulous field monitoring, a well-coordinated operation was launched on April 19, 2023. This operation achieved a significant breakthrough, dismantling the second-largest darknet LSD cartel in the country. The operation resulted in the seizure of around 15,000 LSD blots—more than 2,500 times the commercial quantity—and the freezing of illicit funds totalling ₹24.65 lakh.

LSD, or lysergic acid diethylamide, is a hallucinogenic substance that is colourless, odourless, and tasteless. The Narcotics Control Bureau is resolutely committed to combating the misuse of digital platforms and mitigating the menace of drug trafficking through the darknet.

In its ongoing efforts to counter drug trafficking via the darknet, the NCB hosted the DARKATHON, aimed at rewarding innovative solutions from young minds to tackle the challenges posed by the darknet.
