New Delhi: Members of the left-wing political spectrum from Kerala recently held discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The purpose of this meeting was to demand increased financial support to address the critical financial crisis facing the state of Kerala.

The delegation included Elamaram Kareem,V Sivadasan, John Brittas, A A Rahim, and Jose K Mani, who engaged in dialogue with the Finance Minister. Their primary appeal was for enhanced financial assistance, particularly in light of the upcoming significant occasion of Onam. Notably, Alappuzha MP A M Arif was not part of this delegation.

In a parallel development, the state government of Kerala finds itself grappling with a profound financial predicament. As a response to this, the government has undertaken measures to curtail expenditures. Specifically, the customary outlay of approximately ₹15,000 crores for Onam-related activities has been scaled back to less than ₹10,000 crores for the current period.

Furthermore, it has been determined that the distribution of Onam kits will be limited to beneficiaries holding yellow cards and individuals belonging to other socioeconomically disadvantaged groups.
