Pulwama: An encounter between security forces and militants in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir resulted in the elimination of two militants on Sunday. Among the deceased, one is reported to be a senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The bodies of the terrorists are yet to be recovered.
The encounter commenced in the Larrow-Parigam vicinity. The operation was initiated after security forces received actionable intelligence about the movement of militants in Parigam village within the district.
“Encounter has started in Larrow- Parigam area of Pulwama. Police & Security Forces are on the job. Details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police shared the information on X (formally Twitter).
This development comes two weeks after an encounter resulted in the elimination of a terrorist in the Rajouri district. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint operation was executed on August 5 by the Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
A day before the August 5 operation, a clash with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district resulted in the loss of three Army personnel. Security forces had initiated a search operation in the higher altitudes of the Halan forest region in Kulgam district in southern Kashmir, prompted by information indicating the presence of militants.
According to police reports, the search operation turned into an encounter when the militants opened fire on the security forces, who responded in kind. During the exchange of gunfire, three security personnel sustained injuries. The three Army personnel succumbed to their injuries while undergoing medical treatment.
