New Delhi: ISRO has reported that Chandrayaan-3 has successfully established communication with the orbiter of Chandrayaan-2, which had faced a setback in its mission. Although India’s prominent Chandrayaan endeavour experienced a second mission failure, the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter remains operational and is presently in lunar orbit. The newly dispatched Vikram lander of Chandrayaan-3 has now connected with this orbiter.

ISRO conveyed this significant development through a social media post, considering this communication link as an indicator of Chandrayaan-3’s precise progress. Simultaneously, Chandrayaan-3 is anticipated to touch down on the lunar surface on August 23. Scheduled for Wednesday at 6:04 pm, the lunar landing marks a pivotal moment.

‘Welcome, buddy!’
Ch-2 orbiter formally welcomed Ch-3 LM.

Two-way communication between the two is established.

MOX has now more routes to reach the LM.

Once landed, the probe will commence traversing the moon’s surface within predefined parameters, engaging in various activities and experiments. The overarching objective is to conduct a soft landing at the unexplored South Pole, investigating the elements that contribute to Earth’s habitability from the lunar orbit. The lifespan of both the lander and rover is confined to a single lunar day, equivalent to the time span from lunar sunrise to sunset. This duration, merely 14 days in Earth’s timeframe, is considered one complete lunar day. Only after the successful conclusion of these 14 days of uninterrupted operation will Chandrayaan be deemed a complete success.
