Kozhikode: Following the alarming confirmation of rabies in stray dogs responsible for attacking more than eight individuals in Elathur, the local health department has issued a warning to residents, urging them to exercise caution. With concerns escalating, victims of dog bites have been advised to undergo vaccination as a preventive measure. Moreover, it is suspected that the rabies-infected dog may have attacked others, prompting a call for vigilance from anyone who has encountered a stray dog.

Amidst these health concerns, the Supreme Court is poised to address the pervasive issue of violent stray dogs today. The state’s plea for authorization to cull stray dogs will be deliberated alongside the petitions. Presently, the court is reviewing petitions filed by the Kannur District Panchayat and the State Child Rights Commission. The court’s earlier remarks on the gravity of the situation in Kerala underscore the urgency of the matter. A panel comprising Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice KV Viswanathan will preside over the proceedings.
