THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indian Railways has given the green light to launch a second Vande Bharat train for Kerala, presenting it as a special Onam gift. According to the reports, the new train rake, distinguished by its colors and design, is scheduled to commence its journey towards Mangaluru.
For the operational routes of the second Vande Bharat Express, two options are under consideration: Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru-Ernakulam. However, running the train on the Mangaluru-Thiruvananthapuram route would necessitate the availability of two separate train rakes.
Earlier, Southern Railways had explored the prospect of initiating service between two prominent tourist destinations—Goa and Ernakulam—using the Vande Bharat train. Nevertheless, the decision to operate a single train set on this route was deemed impractical, prompting the authorities to abandon the plan.
At present, Vande Bharat services are operational between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod. Previous reports had also hinted at Kerala receiving its second Vande Bharat train during the festive Onam season.
