“Who is governing Kerala, our governance is in complete shambles”; says Opposition leader VD Satheesan slamming the state government in the recent Aluva rape case

In response to a recent incident, VD Satheesan has raised grave concerns regarding the persistent neglect of the police force in Aluva, shedding light on the dwindling effectiveness of the state’s law enforcement agencies. These concerns have prompted broader questions about the state of governance in Kerala.

Satheesan underscored a notable lack of awareness within the Chief Minister’s department, also citing their apparent ignorance of the recent replacement of the Chairman of the Development Corporation. Remarkably, the incident unfolded merely one and a half kilometres away from Aluva Palace, where the Chief Minister was in residence at the time. The opposition leader asked, “Who is governing Kerala? Our governance is in complete shambles.”

Crucially, Satheesan pointed out that the overall administration seems to be grappling with disarray, citing instances such as the suspension of teacher promotions. He attributed this suspension to budgetary constraints, specifically the additional salary costs that would be incurred.

In a poignant conclusion, Satheesan emphasised that if the government falls short of its fundamental duty to safeguard the well-being of women and children, it should demonstrate the humility to acknowledge these shortcomings and take prompt corrective action.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Putta Vimaladitya provided updates on the child’s condition, offering reassurance to the public that the child is currently in a satisfactory state. As part of the investigative process, the DIG personally visited the child’s residence to gather additional information. Although CCTV footage of the suspect has been procured, an ongoing investigation is currently underway.
