THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity charges in Kerala are set to increase by 20 paise per unit, with the official announcement expected next week. This announcement is contingent on the High Court lifting its stay on the rate hike. Currently, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is seeking a rate increase of 47 paise per unit, factoring in previous rate hikes.
In the meantime, KSEB is planning to issue new tenders for the purchase of electricity. This decision comes in response to the insufficiency of power obtained through previous tenders. Reports indicate that electricity procurement will span from October to May of the following year.
The plan is to acquire approximately 200 MW of power per month through swap tenders.
