Controversy erupts over Tamil Nadu Minister’s remarks on I.N.D.I.A alliance and Sanatana Dharma

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Minister, K Ponmudi, recently made a statement regarding the formation of the I.N.D.I.A alliance by various opposition parties. Ponmudi announced that all 26 parties in the I.N.D.I.A alliance are united in their opposition to Sanatana Dharma.

This is not the first time that such anti-Hindu statements have been made by DMK ministers.

Ponmudi speak this in the wake of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son and Minister Udanidhi Stalin’s call to abolish Sanatana Dharma. During his speech, Ponmudi emphasized, “We may have our differences among us, but the 26 parties in the alliance are united in the fight against Sanatana Dharma. However, we need political power to achieve our goals.”

Ponmudi made these remarks while attending a conference titled ‘Anti-Sanatana Dharma,’ organized by a Dravidian group of so-called progressive writers from Tamil Nadu.

Previously, Udayanidhi’s anti-Hindu statement received support from a prominent DMK leader, A Raja. Following suit, Priyank Kharge, the son of senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, also made a similar statement in support of Udayanidhi.

In response to this issue, KC Venugopal, the General Secretary of AICC, stated that while parties are free to express their opinions, he did not explicitly reject Udayanidhi Stalin’s remarks.

The reactions of these leaders have underscored that the I.N.D.I.A alliance is seen by some as being in opposition to Hinduism and Sanatana Dharma, creating controversy and debate.
