THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the confirmation of Nipah virus case in Kerala, Tamil Nadu has intensified its border check posts. The state is reinforcing inspections at the check posts that share borders with Kerala.

The Tamil Nadu Health Department has initiated inspections at 11 locations starting from the border with Wayanad. Similarly, in other districts bordering Kerala, Tamil Nadu has also launched special monitoring efforts. A medical team, operating round the clock, is conducting checks at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border checkpoints.

This team, comprising doctors and nurses, is stopping vehicles arriving from Kerala to check for symptoms of fever among passengers. They are also recording temperature details for passengers traveling from Kerala to Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu State Health Department advises and sends back individuals with fever symptoms who are arriving from Kerala. In Coimbatore district, health officials are collecting mobile numbers and other details of passengers displaying fever symptoms.

The Tamil Nadu State Health Department has issued instructions to intensify monitoring efforts across all Kerala border regions. Previously, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tamil Nadu closed its border, preventing people from Kerala from crossing into the state, resulting in several controversies. The issue was later resolved by the Central government.
