THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As a precautionary measure in response to the Nipah virus outbreak, educational institutions in Kozhikode district will remain closed on Saturday as well.

In the wake of recent Nipah virus alert, holiday has been announced for all educational institutions in Kozhikode district on Saturday. However, PSC and university exams will proceed as scheduled.

Tuition centers and coaching centers are also required to remain closed for the next two days.

District Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, A. Geetha, mentioned that institutions have the option to organize online classes. It is also advised to postpone all public events scheduled for the next ten days

In addition to Saturday, the district collector had previously declared holidays for Thursday and Friday. This holiday includes professional colleges, Anganwadis, and Madrassas, as stated in a press release on Wednesday.

Kozhikode is facing a renewed Nipah virus threat, with five cases, including two fatalities, reported in the district in recent days.

Health Minister Veena George, speaking to the media in Thiruvananthapuram, also announced that the district collector has been authorized to issue orders directing people to avoid mass gatherings in Kozhikode until September 24.
