Centre to regulate online loan apps;  Will unveil new legislation : Rajeev Chandrasekhar

New Delhi: The Center is all set to crack down illegal loan apps. Union Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that a special law will be introduced soon to regulate the  online loan apps. The Center is all set to implement the Digital India Act. The IT Ministry will release the list of permitted apps in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India.

The Minister said that there will be directives to take action against illegal apps on Play Store and App Store and the Center is planning to implement the Digital India Act. Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that Apple Store and Play Store were instructed to control 128 loan apps six months ago. The central government has limitations to intervene in the current IT Act, but will take necessary action, he added.

The Union Minister also talked about the incident where a couple committed suicide by killing their children in Kadamakudi. He considered the matter to be serious and said that immediate action will be taken in the incident. The family faced constant threat from online loan apps. Even after the mass suicide, the family was threatened by the online loan app. The threats were made by sending morphed obscene photos of dead Shilpa to the phones of her relatives.
