Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a cautionary yellow alert for several districts in Kerala, including Idukki, Malappuram, Kasaragod, and Kannur, due to the threat of isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the state.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, today brings the likelihood of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in isolated areas across Kerala, coupled with strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. As a precautionary measure, residents are urged to adhere to safety instructions, given the potential for unexpected thunderstorms accompanying the rain.
Additionally, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has issued a warning regarding the possibility of high waves ranging from 0.6 to 2.0 metres along the Kerala coast until 6.30 p.m. today. Similar high waves are expected along the southern coasts of Tamil Nadu. Moreover, high tide conditions are anticipated along the southern coasts until 11.30 p.m.
In light of these warnings, fishermen and coastal residents are strongly advised to exercise caution and vigilance, as rough seas are expected to intensify. Authorities recommend staying away from areas prone to danger and avoiding trips to the beach or engaging in sea-related activities during this period. For the safety of fishing vessels and equipment, fishermen are advised to securely moor their boats and gear in the harbour until the weather conditions stabilise.
