Old Parliament building now proposed to rename as 'Samvidhan Sadan'

NEW DELHI: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed naming the old Parliament building ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ after both Houses shift to the new building. He emphasized that the dignity of the building, which has hosted Parliament sessions for the last 75 years, should not diminish by simply referring to it as the ‘old building.’

The Prime Minister suggested that calling it ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ would be a tribute to the leaders who have made history in Parliament. He added, “We should not miss the opportunity to bestow this gift upon future generations.”

PM Modi made these remarks at an event in the Parliament’s Central Hall before the shifting to the new building. He noted the auspicious timing of the shift, as it coincided with Ganesh Chaturthi. Members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha gathered at the historic Central Hall of the old Parliament building, now called ‘Samvidhan Sadan,’ for the occasion.

Following Modi’s speech, all the MPs walked from the old building to the newly built Parliament building. Each MP received a gift bag containing a copy of the Constitution, books related to Parliament, a commemorative coin, and a stamp on the opening day of the new Parliament building.

The move to the new Parliament building also brings changes to the uniforms of Parliament staff in both Houses.
