UGC declares non-accreditation of online and distance education programs in 17 subjects; including medicine and law

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has officially stated that it will not grant accreditation to online and distance education programs in 17 specific subjects. These subjects include medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmacy, agriculture, hotel management, law, architecture, occupational therapy, dentistry, horticulture, catering technology, culinary sciences, aircraft maintenance, visual arts and sports, as well as aviation.

Furthermore, the UGC has made it clear that online and distance education mode MPhil and PhD programs will not be recognized in any subject. These guidelines have been published by the UGC for individuals enrolling in online and distance education programs.

The UGC has also provided information regarding UGC-approved institutions offering online and distance education programs on its official website.

Notably, Calicut University offers 25 approved distance learning programs, Kerala University offers 23, and Sree Narayanaguru (SN) Open University offers 22. It is recommended that the admission procedures for the July-August academic session be completed by the 30th September.
