Thiruvananthapuram: In the ongoing bribery probe linked to the office of Health Minister Veena George, law enforcement agencies are ramping up efforts to gather substantial evidence. The investigation has entered a new phase, with a specific focus on examining CCTV footage in the vicinity of the Secretariat Annex 2 building to shed light on the alleged misconduct. The allegations revolve around the purported acceptance of a bribe in exchange for the appointment of a medical officer, sparking concerns about potential impersonation.

A pivotal aspect of the inquiry revolves around establishing the whereabouts of Akhil Mathew, the personal secretary of the Health Minister, on the day when the alleged bribe exchange purportedly occurred. Authorities have officially requested access to CCTV footage from the Public Administration Department, with hopes that it will yield crucial insights into Akhil Mathew’s movements. However, recent developments suggest that Akhil Mathew may have been in Pathanamthitta on the day in question, as supported by CCTV footage.

Moreover, the complainant in this case, Haridas, has disclosed to the police that he has limited vision, which could complicate the process of identifying individuals involved in the case. To fortify their investigation, law enforcement intends to meticulously examine CCTV footage from April 9, 10, and 11.

Additionally, authorities are exploring the possibility that the bribe might have been obtained from Haridas through impersonation. In Haridas’s initial complaint, he alleged that Akhil Mathew accepted the bribe near the Secretariat building. To construct a comprehensive case, the police have already obtained Akhil Mathew’s phone call records and bank account information.
