THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amid several controversies surrounding the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam and the involvement of the CPI(M), the BJP is demanding a CBI inquiry.
MT Ramesh, the BJP Kerala State General Secretary, has called for an investigation into the funds of cooperative banks for the past three years. MT Ramesh also said that the Kerala government responsible for corruption in the cooperative sector. Ramesh argued that the CPI(M) is using the blame on the central government as a strategy to hide their own corruption.
According to Ramesh the left-wing Kerala government is attempting to protect CPI(M) leaders involved in the scam. He alleged that CPI(M) members used the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank for money laundering, which has resulted to the current poor condition of the bank.
Ramesh emphasized the need for a CBI investigation into irregularities in the cooperative sector and highlighted the importance of implementing a unified software and core-banking system.
Additionally, Ramesh announced that the BJP would hold a protest march from Karuvannur Cooperative Bank to Thrissur Cooperative Bank on Gandhi Jayanti day (October 2) to protest against the alleged looting of cooperative banks by the CPI(M). This protest march has been named the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra).
It has also been informed that actor and former MP Suresh Gopi will lead the march, with BJP State President K Surendran set to inaugurate the event.
