Thrissur: Another complaint has emerged in the ongoing Karuvannur bank scandal, as the family of a physically disabled man who tragically passed away without receiving the necessary funds for his treatment has come forward. Shashi, a resident of Kolangat in Karuvannur, was in a critical condition and sadly succumbed on the 30th of last month. The family alleges that despite having substantial funds deposited in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank, the physically disabled account holder was denied the essential funds required for his medical treatment.

A total of Rs. 14 lakhs were deposited in the Karuvannur bank under the names of Shashi and his mother. A significant portion of this sum, amounting to Rs. 5 lakhs, was urgently needed for a life-saving surgery. However, the bank disbursed only Rs. 1,90,000 in multiple installments. The family laments that had they received the full amount in time, Shashi might have had a chance at recovery.

Shashi, beset by nerve problems, had lost the use of his arms and legs. During the course of his treatment, his blood pressure suddenly spiked, necessitating his immediate hospitalization. When his family urgently contacted the bank’s secretary to request the required funds, bank employees responded by providing a mere Rs. 90,000, claiming there were no other options available. Faced with this dire situation, the family sought help from their local ward member and managed to secure an additional amount of Rs.1 lakh from the bank. However, the total amount received thus far remains at Rs. 1,90,000.

At present, Shashi’s mother is left with no other means of support. Shashi’s sister reveals that when her mother and brother fell ill, they were compelled to sell their property and deposit the proceeds in the bank. To cover the expenses of Shashi’s treatment, the family borrowed from various sources. She emphasizes that in order to repay these loans, they urgently require access to the funds deposited in the bank, and the family now finds itself in a precarious situation, appealing for compassion from the bank authorities.
