Rain havoc continues in Kerala: Prime Minister will reach this evening

Thiruvananthapuram: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kerala to review the progress of rescue operations and to observe the situation. Narendra Modi discussed the situation over the phone  with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and told to speed up rescue operations.

Various areas including Aluva, Chalakkudi, Paravoor and Kalady are badly affected and isolated. High alert has been declared. Army and navy operations are underway to rescue people who are trapped in the areas. Trains via Kottayam have been cancelled.

Water level in Pamba is coming down and Pathanamthitta district gets a slight relief from heavy rains and floods. Rescue operations are progressing in Aranmula. Kids and aged people are facing severe issues as they have been in water for hours.More people are being evacuated as water level goes up in Upper Kuttanad.

Traffic is blocked in Kozhikkode as roads are flooded. Families have been shifted to rescue camps. Water level in Idukki dam has reached 2402.30 feet. People including media persons are trapped at Vazhathod school in Cheruthoni. Munnar and Cheruthoni regions are totally isolated. Communication facilities are damaged,roads carcked and blocked,and traffic is completely disrupted. Wayanad district also has heavy damage including land slide and lot of people are still in dilemma as they are yet not shifted to relief camps. KSRTC -private bus services have been cancelled in Palakkad.
