Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE) is involved in a controversy over purported backdoor appointments. Reports suggest that Minister V. Sivankutty is under scrutiny for his alleged intervention in favour of appointing ‘backdoor candidates’ on a permanent basis. However, these demands have been rejected by the finance department.
The temporary appointments of ten candidates to various positions, including publicity assistant, project coordinator, and peon at KILE, have raised concerns as they appear to violate the finance department’s stipulations. According to the finance department’s rulebook, appointments should be made through the employment exchange, a process that was allegedly not adhered to in this case. Instead, ten individuals with affiliations to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) were appointed at KILE.
These temporary appointments took place during the first term of the Pinarayi Vijayan government, when Sivankutty served as KILE’s chairman. The finance department reportedly expressed opposition to the appointments at that time. However, the KILE administrative body recommended that these appointments be made permanent. In the second term of the Pinarayi Vijayan government, the same recommendation was brought before Sivankutty. The latest allegation is that Sivankutty advocated for the permanent appointments of these individuals.
