Task force in Munnar today to address land encroachment issues; will MM Mani’s brother’s construction be demolished or spared from action?

Munnar, Kerala: The government’s task force is set to ascend the hills of Munnar today to demolish illegal constructions and encroachments by prominent businessmen, including members of the CPI (M) party. Notably, these encroachments involve various unauthorized constructions, including those attributed to former minister MM Mani’s brother, Lambodharan. The question now arises whether any of these structures will actually be demolished.

Numerous establishments, such as resorts, ropeways, and water theme parks, have been erected on government-owned land, sparking widespread concerns about their legality. Previously, MM Mani had voiced criticism against the mission team tasked with evicting these encroachments.

The Revenue Department has submitted a report to the government, highlighting the need to stop the building ventures near the National Highway on the Munnar-Adimali route in Iruttukanam. Lambodharan’s constructions encroach upon government land without the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the revenue department.

The report’s recommendations highlight the violations of land tenure rules and lease provisions involved in constructing on leased land. Furthermore, commencing a tourism project on land designated for agriculture is deemed unacceptable. The report calls for the immediate cancellation of leases and the removal of all illegal structures, including the unlawful excavation of land for the project.
