Ernakulam: The municipal health department recently carried out comprehensive inspections at hotels in Thrikkakara. During the inspection, unhygienic food preparation conditions and the presence of stale food were uncovered in multiple hotels. Stale food items were confiscated from nine different hotels, including the canteen at the cooperative hospital.
In the aftermath of these inspections, the health department promptly issued notices to nine hotels within the Thrikkakara area. Furthermore, it was discovered that many of the kitchen staff in various hotels lacked health cards.
This inspection comes in the wake of a tragic incident where a young man lost his life after consuming shawarma from one of the local hotels. In light of this, the municipal health department has indicated its intent to continue conducting inspections in the coming days.
