Thiruvananthapuram: The Health Department has withdrawn its controversial social media ban imposed on doctors and other health workers. This decision came after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Kerala Government Medical Officers Association (KGMOA) voiced strong opposition to the ban. The ban, which was enforced by Health Department Director Dr. Reena on the 13th of this month, prohibited health workers from using social media platforms.
Both the IMA and KGMOA criticized the ban, labeling it as a violation of rights. KGMOA also warned of legal action if the circular was not withdrawn.
The circular specifically prohibited officials under the Health Department from posting on social media or running YouTube channels. It has been suggested that granting permission subject to adherence to the code of conduct may lead to a higher likelihood of violations. The directive states that there is a possibility for earning advertising revenue from posts, but deems it impractical to monitor such activities effectively.
