Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has approached the Supreme Court against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for not signing eight bills. The left government has submitted a writ petition at the apex court.

Governor Arif Mohammed Khan had not given approval to eight bills, including the bill to cut the powers of Lok Ayukta. The government had sought legal advice on the matter and decided to approach the SC against the Governor.

In the 461-page writ petition submitted by the state government, it says that the Governor did not sign eight bills and out of it, he has withheld three bills for the last two years. The writ also said that the Governor’s action is against the constitutional norms.

Many of the eight bills pertain to the powers and interventions of the Governor. The Governor is dead against bills such as university amendment bill and Chancellor bill. These bills were introduced in a bid to remove the Governor from the position of Chancellor of the universities and to appoint the government’s favorites as Vice Chancellors and to quell any questions against these decisions.
