Ernakulam: Hotel owners in Thrikkakkara are set to file a legal petition with the High Court in response to the municipal council’s recent decision to prohibit nighttime trading in the area. The hotel owners argue that this move by the Thrikkakkara Municipal Corporation contradicts a prior High Court ruling.
The decision to impose restrictions on nighttime trade activities came about following a joint meeting involving the Thrikkakkara Municipal Corporation, the Police, and the Excise Departments. This decision was prompted by concerns over the growing drug trade in nighttime shops. The Municipal Corporation clarifies that these restrictions have been put in place to curb drug-related activities and the disturbances caused by drug users. A final decision on this matter is expected to be reached during the municipal council meeting scheduled for later today.
As a trial measure, these shops will remain closed for the next six months, with operating hours restricted from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. But at the same time, Thrikkakkara is an area known for its vibrant nighttime commercial activities.
