BJP launches mass flag hoisting protest in Tamil Nadu after police forcefully removes the party flagpole in Chennai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the forceful removal of a BJP flagpole installed near Chennai at the house of Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai by the Tamil Nadu police, the party has decided to hoist 10,000 party flags across the state as a protest.

Based on this decision, several BJP members have begun installing party flagpoles on their own patta lands to protest the ‘draconian’ DMK government.

On November 5, Tamil Nadu BJP party members hoisted party flags in several parts of the state. It is reported that as a first step, yesterday, in Kanyakumari district, they hoisted party flags in 26 different places on their own patta lands.

According to Annamalai’s instructions, yesterday at around 10 am, with the leadership of Ms. Sheeba Prasad (Kanyakumari district BJP vice president), the party members gathered and inaugurated the BJP party flag hoisting program in the district.

The hoisting program was inaugurated at Ayacode in the Padmanabhapuram constituency of Kanyakumari district. Several party members attended the program and spoke about the DMK’s rule in Tamil Nadu, labeling it as fascist. They also expressed concerns about the intimidatory tactics employed by the Tamil Nadu government leading up to the elections.

There are reports that the ‘En Mann En Makkal‘ padayatra initiated by Annamalai has raised awareness among the people of the state about the Central government’s policies, which were not brought to light by the state ruling government.

The party’s flag hoisting program was initiated in response to a late-night police operation in which over 200 BJP supporters gathered near Annamalai’s house in Chennai. There are also reports of fake cases being registered against party members, and six BJP leaders have been arrested. In a brutal police attack, Vivin Baskaran, a functionary of the BJP’s IT wing, sustained head injuries and was hospitalized for treatment.

All of these incidents occurred while the state President, K Annamalai, was not at his house. There are allegations that this operation was planned while he was away from home and was part of the DMK’s agenda to oppose the BJP’s development in the state.

In response to the removal of the BJP flag, many have criticized the DMK’s fascist approach. Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, the BJP’s national co-in charge of Tamil Nadu, alleged that the arrest of some BJP cadres was ‘purely politically motivated.’ The TN BJP vice president, Nagarajan, questioned whether the police would similarly remove unauthorized flagpoles of the ruling DMK, alleging that flags of other parties installed in multiple places were not removed by the police. Following these incidents, the party has decided to hoist 10,000 party flags across the state in protest.
