MALAPPURAM: A CPI(M) district committee member, accused of attempting to sexually molest a minor boy, has been suspended from the CPI(M). Velayudhan Vallikkunnu, a member of the Malappuram district committee, faced suspension in light of the molestation allegations.

The Parappanangadi police registered a case against Velayudhan Vallikkunnu, a member of the Malappuram district committee. According to police reports, the incident occurred in July 2023 when the CPI(M) member was traveling on a bus in Kozhikode. He was accused of misbehavior and attempting to sexually molest a minor boy who was also on the bus.

Yesterday, the police charged Velayudhan Vallikkunnu with a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses) case. The case was initially filed with the Parappanangadi police station but was later transferred, as the incident fell within the jurisdiction of the Nallalam station.

Despite the child’s filing of a case against him, the CPI(M) district unit claimed they were unaware of the incident. However, as the incident gained public attention and controversy, the CPI(M) took suspension measures against Velayudhan Vallikkunnu.

The CPI(M) district secretariat yesterday convened an urgent meeting and decided to suspend Velayudhan Vallikkunnu. Currently, the duration of the suspension has not been announced, but it is only mentioned that the CPI(M) member has been suspended.
