Panaji: In a shocking incident, a video is being circulated over social media showing a mob numbering 80 attacking and beating Dr. Kaidas Vaignakar and his family, who are residents of Sancoale Village in Goa.

The mob, comprised of 80 or more parishioners, was led by a Christian priest, Father Lewis Alvares.

According to the complaint filed by Kaidas Vaignakar at the police station, the attack was in response against a PIL filed by Vaignakar against the Church for conducting the Sancoale Feast Day celebrations. The PIL states that the Church’s celebration is a cause of inconvenience to the residents of Sancoale village.

The PIL requested the feast to be shifted to another location so as to avoid the trouble caused by the celebrations to the people of the village.

Vaignakar states that Father Lewis Alvares entered the property of Vaignakar accompanied by an angry mob of parishioners and proceeded to brutally thrash him and his family while the police looked on and did not try to stop the attackers.

Previously, the Church was at loggerheads with Vaignakar and his associates for running a cowshed behind the church. He was also instrumental in voicing his protest against illegally placing crosses on different lands. This might have led to the mob attack against Vaignakar and his family.
