Actor and farmer Krishna Prasad slams Kerala government over farmer’s suicide, denounces diversion tactics

ALAPPUZHA: Actor and farmer Krishna Prasad has spoken out in response to the tragic suicide of farmer KG Prasad in Thakazhi, Alappuzha district.

Krishna Prasad strongly asserted that the left-wing Kerala state government bears sole responsibility for the farmer’s suicide. He criticized the government for attempting to divert the issue by blaming the deceased farmer’s political views.

The late Prasad, who served as the Alappuzha district president of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BJP’s farmers association), took his own life.

Krishna Prasad emphasized that the Kerala government should express common decency by settling the financial dues owed to the deceased farmer.

Alleging negligence towards farmers in the state, Krishna Prasad highlighted that anyone criticizing the government’s attitude toward farmers faces cyber attacks from left-wing party members. He referred to an incident involving actor Jayasurya, who was cyber-attacked in August for expressing dissatisfaction with the Kerala government’s treatment of farmers. Despite facing numerous cyber attacks, Jayasurya remained firm, in support of the farmers who are victimized by the state government.

Krishna Prasad concluded by urging a change in the Kerala government’s attitude towards farmers.

In his suicide note, Prasad, the deceased farmer, expressed that it was the state government’s duty to promptly repay Paddy Receipt Sheet (PRS) loans and interests, as promised. However, the government allegedly failed to fulfill this commitment, leading to a situation where banks were unwilling to provide new loans for cultivation. The suicide note revealed that a bank had extended Rs 5 lakh for paddy procured during the 2022-23 season, but the state government had reportedly not repaid it as promised.
