Thiruvananthapuram: K. Surendran alleges that the Pinarayi government in Kerala is misusing central funds, accusing them of driving the underprivileged to the point of suicide. The BJP State President expressed his criticism following the suicide of a lottery seller in Pathanamthitta, claiming that the state government is directly responsible for the increasing instances of suicide among farmers and the poor.
Surendran asserted that every suicide note seems to contain accusations against the Pinarayi government. He highlighted a specific case where an individual took his own life due to his inability to secure a house through the Life Housing project, urging the government to explain the apparent stall in the Life Mission, with 7 lakh pending applications.
The BJP leader also pointed out the alleged misallocation of funds meant for paddy farmers, emphasizing that 75 percent of the amount, fully provided by the central government, is being diverted by the Kerala government for unrelated purposes. According to Surendran, this diversion of funds is exacerbating the plight of farmers in the state.
Surendran argued that Kerala’s financial constraints are not due to a lack of revenue but a failure to collect taxes from those who receive monthly payments. He called for transparency, suggesting that if the government disputes the presented facts, it should issue a white paper to address the economic status of the state.
