Kochi: The High Court has considered a petition filed by Philip, a resident of Kasaragod, challenging the director of public education’s order to release school buses for Navakerala Sadas if requested by the organizing committee. The petition was heard by Justice Devan Ramachandran.

Last day, the director of public education issued an order allowing the release of school buses for Navakerala Sadas, leading him to file a petition in the High Court against the decision.

The petitioner argued that the school buses are essential for the transportation of his children, and if allocated to the Navakerala Sadas, it would affect the school’s regular activities. The petition contended that, utilising school buses for other purposes is against the Motor Vehicle Act and permit regulations. Additionally, verbal instructions were allegedly given to teachers and school staff to attend the Navkerala Sadas on working days, further impacting the school’s operations.

Taking these arguments into consideration, the High Court has granted a stay on the order. Justice Devan Ramachandran emphasized that the school buses should not be released without a court order, acknowledging the potential disruption to the school’s functions.
