NIA raid at Kozhikode in connection with Pakistan-backed terror module case

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids in four states, including Kerala, uncovering connections with the Pakistan-backed terror organization Ghazwa-e-Hind, which has been implicated in planning terror attacks in Bharat. The raid in Kerala specifically targeted Kozhikode, while simultaneous operations took place in Dewas (Madhya Pradesh), Azamgarh (Uttar Pradesh), and Gir in Gujarat’s Somanath district.

The basis for these raids was the alleged involvement of individuals associated with Ghazwa-e-Hind in anti-national activities and the dissemination of radical ideas. The terrorist organization’s primary objective was to form sleeper cells for carrying out terrorist activities in Bharat.

The investigation originated from an arrest made on July 14, 2022, when Marghoob Ahmad was apprehended in connection with the case at the Phulwarisharif police station in Patna. Marghoob provided information about sleeper cells in Kerala, leading to the subsequent raid in Kozhikode.

NIA sources revealed that Marghoob was the administrator of a WhatsApp group named ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind,’ created by a Pakistani national identified as Zain. The group included members from Bharat, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Yemen, and maintained an active presence on various social media platforms such as Telegram and BiP Messenger. The primary goal of the group was to radicalize susceptible youth. NIA investigations further exposed that the group was operated by suspects based in Pakistan.
