THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three individuals from Thiruvananthapuram have been taken custody as part of an investigation into the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl from Kollam. Following the incident where the girl named Abigel Sara Reji was kidnapped yesterday evening from Oyoor in Kollam district, the police have intensified vehicle checks across the state.
In connection with the case, one person was taken into custody from Sreekaryam, and two were taken into custody from Sreekanteswaram in Thiruvananthapuram city. The police clarified that those detained were associated with a car washing center in Sreekanteswaram. The police have further initiated interrogation. It’s been reported that approximately Rs 7.5 lakh was seized from the car washing center.
The inspection was carried out by the police teams from Sreekaryam and Vanchiyoor Police Station. The investigation is focusing on a white car suspected to have been used for the kidnapping, leading the police to scrutinize the car washing center in Sreekanteswaram, Thiruvananthapuram. Additionally, ongoing investigations are now also taking place at a workshop in Thiruvallam.
Police reported that at around 7 pm yesterday, three hours after the child went missing, the mother received a call from an unknown number demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. Approximately five hours after the kidnapping, the kidnappers increased the ransom to Rs 10 lakh. The phone calls were made by a woman. The police initiated the investigation based on this lead as well.
