Thiruvananthapuram: The 28th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) is all set to start today. The virtual inauguration will be done by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and is scheduled to take place at 6 pm at Nishagandhi Auditorium, Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram. Bollywood actor Nana Patekar will be the chief guest.
175 films that will be screened during the fair. Two Malayalam films were selected for the competition category. The Malayalam films in the competition category are ‘Family,’ directed by Don Palathara, and ‘Thadavu,’ directed by debutant Fazil Razak. The ‘Malayalam Cinema Today’ category features 12 films, including the works of eight debutant directors and two women directors.
Noteworthy among the debutant directors’ creations are Anand Ekarshi’s ‘Aattam,’ Shalini Ushadevi’s ‘Ennennum,’ K Rinoshun’s ‘Five First Dates,’ V. Sarathkumar’s ‘Neelamudi,’ Gagan Dev’s ‘Applechedikal,’ Shruthi Sharanyam’s ‘B 32 Muthal 44 Vare,’ Vignesh P Sasidharan’s ‘Scheherazade,’ Sunil Kudamaloor’s ‘Valasai Paravakal,’ Prashant Vijay’s ‘Dayam,’ Satish and Santhosh Babusenan’s ‘Anand Monolisa Marunavum Kathu,’ Ranjan Pramod’s ‘O Baby,’ and Jeo Baby’s ‘Kathal, The Core.’
Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran will present the Spirit of Cinema Award to Kenyan director Wanuri Kahiu. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the Polish producer, director, and screenwriter Krzysztof Sanusi at the festival’s closing ceremony. ‘Suvarna Chakoram’ for the best film is awarded Rs 20 lakh. The ‘Rajatha Chakoram’ will award Rs 4 lakh to the best director, while debutant directors will receive Rs 3 lakh. Rs 2 lakh will be awarded to the director of the film eligible for the Audience Award, and the best debutant director in India eligible for the FFSI KR Mohanan Endowment Award will receive Rs 1 lakh.
