Left government in Kerala are not concerned with the problems of farmers in the state: BKS National General Secretary

Thiruvananthapuram: Bharatheeya Kisan Sangh (BKS) National General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra in a press conference said if the situation of the farmers is not handled properly by the ruling left government in Kerala, ‘the left government will remain as left from Kerala’. He was sarcastically stating this about the Kerala Government which has time and again failed to address the farmers’ issues in Kerala and has totally neglected its agricultural sector.

BKS National General Secretary said that during the Corona period, it is because the farmers in India relentlessly worked and did farming, the people of India could be provided with food. But the farmers of Bharat were never referred to as Corona warriors. He asked why the farmers are being pushed to the background.

Mohini Mohan Mishra talked about the farmer suicides in Kerala. He said it is highly pathetic that the farmers have to take their own life as they don’t have money to provide for their family or invest in farming. Why the farmers are not been given their dues directly to them? Why is the government giving the farmers’ share to the bank and the banks in turn giving the money to the farmers as loans? What is the logic behind this, he asked. He said that the farmers in Kerala are also not getting the funds provided to them from the Central government. Where did the funds go?

Mohini Mohan said that when a farmer loses his life irrespective of what the reasons are, he should be given good compensation. He demanded the government to give the family of the deceased farmers’ at least Rs 25 lakhs as compensation.

Rice consumers are more in Kerala. But the paddy procurement is not properly done here. He said Kerala is a land of coconuts and rubber, but the government is not doing enough to make it profitable for the cultivators. New reforms should come for proper procurement, payment and irrigation for the development of agriculture in Kerala. He said farmers should be exempted from paying taxes to sell their goods. Farming should be implemented free of taxes.

Bharatheeya Kisan Sangh (BKS) in Kerala is organizing “Farmer Rights Declaration Rally” in Thiruvananthapuram on 15th December, 2023. BKS National General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra will inaugurate the rally which will start from Palayam Raktasakshi Mandapam on 15th at 10.30 am. State President Dr. Anil Vaidyamangalam will preside over the function.

At the concluding conference which will be held at Gandhi Park, State President Dr. Anil Vaidyamangalam will present a comprehensive document on “Kerala Alternative Agriculture Policy” to save Kerala’s agricultural sector from the crisis. 100 demands which need to be solved urgently in the agriculture sector of Kerala will be raised before the central and state governments.

National General Secretary Mohini Mohan Mishra, National Vice President T. Perumal, State General Secretary E. Narayanankutty, State Organization Secretary, P. Muraleedharan and Rally General Convener Adv. K. Mohan Kumar will also speak during the occasion.
