New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held talks with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. During their discussion, the two leaders focused on enhancing bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade and investment.
Sultan Haitham, the top leader of Oman who is visiting India for the first time, arrived in the country on Friday for a three-day visit, invited by President Droupadi Murmu.
Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), emphasized that the Sultan’s visit will further strengthen the friendship and collaboration between India and Oman. Bagchi shared this update from his official social media handle.
The MEA highlighted that the Sultan of Oman’s inaugural State visit signifies an important milestone in the diplomatic ties between New Delhi and Oman.
Earlier on Saturday, Sultan Haitham received a ceremonial reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on the second day of his visit. PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu welcomed the Sultan at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Sultan Haitham also inspected a Guard of Honour by the combined defence services.
India established diplomatic relations with Oman in 1955, which were upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2008. Oman holds a significant position as India’s primary defence partner in the Gulf region, with defence collaboration being a fundamental aspect of their strategic partnership, as per the MEA.
