Madikeri: The Karnataka Government has issued a mandate requiring individuals aged 60 and above, those with heart and kidney diseases, as well as those exhibiting symptoms such as fever, phlegm, and colds, to wear masks as a precautionary measure in response to concerns about the JN.1 subvariant.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu announced the government’s decision in light of the detection of the JN.1 subvariant of the coronavirus in Kerala. Minister Gundu assured the public that there is no need to panic as the situation is currently under control.

Preparations are underway in hospitals and health centers following instructions to enhance readiness. Additionally, the state has heightened vigilance in border districts such as Kodagu, Mangaluru, and Chamarajanagar.

As of Monday, Bharat’s (India’s) COVID-19 situation remains under control, with an active caseload of 1,828. However, a single death was reported in Kerala, where the JN.1 subvariant of the coronavirus was recently detected.
