Guruvayoor Devaswom Chairman tries to stifle the traditions at Guruvayoor temple

Guruvayoor: The Guruvayoor Devaswom Chairman, K. B. Mohandas, broke the traditions followed at the Guruvayoor Temple. He is reported to have raised his voice against the Tantri who asked the Chairman to refrain from entering the gate when rituals were being performed inside. According to tradition only the Tantri and priests are only allowed inside during that time.

The Parambaria Paricharaka Samithi or the committee for the protection of traditions at the temple has raised its objections against the unruly behaviour of the Devaswom chairman.

The incident happened on Monday when the Tantri was performing rituals to the Goddess. It was during that time that Mohandas had entered the premises. This was noticed by the Tantri and he asked the Chairman to stand aside.

This made Mohandas angry and he raised his voice against the Tantri and asked him  which tantric text says that the Chairman must not stand there. He also sought an explanation from the Tantri regarding the issue. The tradition protection committee has strongly condemned insulting the Tantri of the temple by the Chairman.

This is not the first time that the Chairman has behaved insultingly with the Tantri. It must be noted that the Chairman’s actions are in violation of the Supreme Court’s verdict that the Tantri is the final word for all the rituals performed in a temple.
