New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah firmly stated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) is the law of this country, and its implementation cannot be obstructed by anyone. He made this declaration during a public meeting held in Kolkata, where he criticised the Chief Minister of Bengal for attempting to mislead the public regarding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Addressing the crowd, Amit Shah highlighted instances where Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Bengal, has purportedly misled the people about the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act across the nation.

“I want to say this clearly that CAA is the law of the nation, and no one can stop its implementation. The CAA aims to put an end to granting citizenship to those infiltrating the country and religious terrorists. This commitment is integral to our party,” said Amit Shah.

The Trinamool Congress had previously opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which was passed in 2019. According to the law, minorities who arrived in Bharat from neighbouring countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are eligible for citizenship. The law specifically benefits individuals belonging to the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, and Christian communities.
