New Delhi: The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) has reported a significant rise in cases of the JN.1 subtype of the Corona virus across Bharat. As of the latest update, 157 individuals in the country have been confirmed to be infected with the JN.1 variant. The outbreak has now spread to a total of nine states across the country.
The majority of cases have been identified in the state of Kerala, which has reported 78 confirmed cases. Gujarat has the second-highest number of JN.1 cases, with 34 patients currently under treatment. Goa (18), Karnataka (eight), Maharashtra (seven), Rajasthan (five), Tamil Nadu (four), Telangana (two), and Delhi (one) have also reported cases of the JN.1 subtype.
The data indicates a significant rise in cases, with 141 JN. 1 case was reported in December alone, and 16 cases in November.
