Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at isolated locations across the state for the next five days. With this prediction, a yellow alert has been issued for several districts in Kerala.
On January 7, a yellow alert is issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts. Further alerts are in place for Idukki and Malappuram districts on January 8 and for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts on January 10.
The IMD has cautioned coastal residents to remain vigilant, citing the potential for high waves. The advisory further urges the public to abstain from beach visits and sea-related recreational activities during this period.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has issued additional information, warning of 0.5 to 1.5 metre-high waves and a possible storm surge along the Kerala coast until 11.30 pm today. Coastal residents and fishermen are strongly advised to stay vigilant, considering the rough sea conditions and the potential for tidal wave impacts.
