Thiruvananthapuram: The 81st Golden Globes marked the commencement of the Hollywood award season, and the film ‘Oppenheimer’, directed by Christopher Nolan, and TV series ‘Succession’ emerged as the big winners. ‘Oppenheimer’, with five wins out of its eight nominations, claimed the prestigious Best Film (Drama) award. Christopher Nolan secured the Best Director award, while Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. secured the Best Film Actor (Drama) and Best Supporting Actor (Film) awards, respectively.
Meanwhile, “Poor Things,” a comedy fantasy film, surpassed “Barbie “to win Best Musical/Comedy Film award, with Emma Stone earning the title of Best Film Actress award in Comedy. “The Holdovers,” a comedy drama, secured awards for Paul Giamatti as Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) and Da’Vine Randolph as Best Supporting Actress in the film category. Lily Gladstone was honoured with the Best Film Actress (Drama) award for “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
The TV series ‘Succession’, ‘The Bear’, and ‘Beef’ claimed victories in their respective TV categories. Kieran Culkin’s portrayal of Roman Roy in ‘Succession’ earned him Best TV Actor (Drama), while Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen won Best TV Actress (Drama) award and Best Supporting TV Actor award, respectively. ‘Succession’ also clinched the Best Television Series (Drama) title.
‘Beef’ secured Best Limited Series, Anthology, or TV Movie award with Ali Wong and Steven Yeun earning Best Actress and Best Actor awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best TV Actor (Musical/Comedy) award for ‘The Bear’ for the second consecutive year, and Ayo Edebiri won Best TV Actress (Musical/Comedy) award. ‘The Bear’ also claimed the Best Series (Musical/Comedy) award.
